“This conceptual label is a photography project that I started during lockdown in 2020. Each year, post harvest, I’ll take a self portrait to represent that respective vintage which will then be utilized as the label - it aims to offer an insight into what I was thinking that year. In 20 years’ time you’ll be able to line up all of the bottles and see how I mature as both a winemaker and a man.” - Angus Vinden. .
2024 Pokolbin Blanc . This years' Pokolbin Blanc is a blend of multiple varieties, with some fermented on skins, some in stainless steel, some in clay amphora and some in neutral French oak, to build complexity, weight and texture. I wonder if you can guess what all of these varieties are?! This funky little number is light, fun and delicious.
This Semillon was sourced from our Somerset Vineyard and handpicked in early February 2021.
The block was planted by the Howard family in 1969, over fine clay loam soil. The juice was fermented on fine solids and extended lees contact was allowed before being bottled. The wine shows the character of the old gnarled vines: refreshing natural acidity; citrus fruit and delicate minerality. Drink anytime over the next 10+ years.
Sourced from our Somerset Vineyard. The blocks were planted by the Howard family in 1973, 1980 & 1987 over red volcanic clay and fine sandy clay loam soil. The fruit was handpicked and basket pressed with the juice transferred directly to large format, tight grain, French & Austrian oak, where the wine underwent fermentation. During the eleven month élevage, bâtonnage was conducted to build creamy texture to support the fruit and oak spice.
