Vinden x Catalina Semillon

Vinden Wines x Catalina Somerset Semillon | 10.5% Alc./ vol. | Limited release.

Due to the lockdown, the restaurant has been closed for several months, therefore we have a limited number of cases of this exceptional wine to sell.

This wine was a bespoke project- a collaboration between Catalina Restaurant and Vinden Wines. The wine was hand crafted in the Hunter and refined by the exceptional palates of the team at Catalina to produce something truly unique.

Sourced from Somerset Vineyard, which was planted in 1969 over fine clay loam soil, the fruit was picked in early February 2020. The juice was fermented on fine solids and extended lees contact was allowed before being bottled.

This wine shows the character of the old gnarled vines; citrus fruit refreshing natural acidity, and delicate minerality.

The Pink Pack

The Pink Pack

This three pack of rosé wines should've been called The Session Pack, because these are all tasty drops, perfect for long lunches. Each pack includes:

1 x 2021 The Vinden Headcase 'Spinning Away' Rosé 750ml 12.5% alc./vol.

Sourced from Inglewood, Somerset, Vinden & Tawarri Vineyards across the Hunter Valley. This wine was my favourite to make for 2021, multiple ferments were blended together to create a delicious, dry, textural rosé. Fermented in stainless steel, concrete eggs, seasoned French oak barrels and given extended lees contact.

1 x mv Alicante Bouschet (lightly sparkling) 750ml 10.5% alc./vol.

Vinden Wines is one of very few wineries in Australia to grow and produce this rare grape varietal - it is a teinturier, one of the few grapes with red flesh, resulting from a cross in the 1800’s between a Grenache and Petit Bouschet. Grown on Vinden Estate on red loamy clay, it truly reflects the characteristics of the grape varietal, a fruit-forward style with red berries on the palate.  This new release is bottled with a light spritz. And don't let the colour fool you - this guy is pretty dry and not too sweet. Makes the perfect cure for a dusty morning.

1 x 2021 The Vinden Headcase Pokolbin Blanc (blush) 750ml 11% alc./vol.

Pokolbin Blanc is a blend of multiple varieties, with some fermented on skins, some in stainless steel, Spanish clay amphora and some in neutral French oak to build complexity, weight and texture. This funky little number is light, fun and delicious.

The White Pack

The White Pack

It's exactly what it says on the tin. This three pack includes:

1 x 2021 Vinden Wines Chardonnay 750ml 12.5% alc./vol.

This Chardonnay was sourced from our Somerset Vineyard. The blocks were planted by the Howard family in 1973, 1980 & 1987 over red volcanic clay and fine sandy clay loam soil. The fruit was handpicked and basket pressed with the juice transferred directly to large format, tight grain, French & Austrian oak, where the wine underwent fermentation. During the seven-month élevage, bâtonnage was conducted to build complexity. A modern Hunter ‘Chardy’, balancing fruit and minerality, with texture and beautiful lees weight.

1 x 2021 The Vinden Headcase Semillon 750ml 10.5% alc./vol.

Semillon sourced from our Somerset Vineyard - this block was planted by the Howard family in 1969 over fine clay loam soil, the fruit was hand picked in early February. The juice was fermented on fine solids in tank, a large concrete egg,  neutral oak and given extended lees contact to building complexity and texture. The wine shows the character of the old gnarled vines; refreshing natural acidity, citrus fruit and delicate minerality. Drink anytime over the next 10+ years.

1 x 2021 The Vinden Headcase Experimental Skin Contact Chenin Blanc 750ml 11.5 alc./vol.

This Chenin Blanc is sourced from our organically farmed Somerset Vineyard. This block was planted by the Howard family in '07 on fine clay loam soil. The fruit was handpicked, de-stemmed, then fermented on skins for a week before being pressed off into Spanish clay amphorae and neutral French oak for secondary fermentation, before being blended.

1 x 2021 The Vinden Headcase Shiraz Nouveau 750ml 12.5% alc./vol.

This wine was inspired by a trip to Beaujolais. This light, crisp, perfumed style of Shiraz was sourced from our Vinden Vineyard planted in 1995 over red clay soil and Tawarri Vineyard in the Upper Hunter. 10% whole bunch, 90% whole berry in open concrete fermenters, hand plunged, basket pressed and aged for 4 months in neutral French oak barrels. Enjoy it now or on a hot summer’s day serve it chilled with a straw.

This year’s lightly sparkling Alicante Bouschet looks a little different - Angus selected a swing top champenoise glass, making it easy to pop and reseal - saving you manically searching through that one random cutlery drawer (we all have one) for your Champagne stopper. This year’s label was illustrated by Hunter Valley-born, botanical illustrator Adriana Picker. The elegant illustration shows the Alicante Bouschet during its flowering process.

Trevena Vineyard, planted in 1920 on sandy loam soils, these unirrigated vines are situated on Hermitage Road Pokolbin, and Somerset Vineyard in Pokolbin, planted in 1969 on sandy clay loam.
